Blox Flickz was an upcoming Robloxian television channel owned by rTV Networks, launched on May 26, 2017 as the successor to Flickz, which rTVN acquired from its original owner, Gavent Networks, after it closed on March 31, 2017. Blox Flickz is a sister channel to rTVN's "premium flagship" channel Blox, and complements Blox's mixed schedule with a movie-based offering.
The channel closed on January 6, 2019, and was replaced by Blox Premium.
Blox Flickz originated as Flickz, a channel started by Gavent Networks in 2013, initially set to air both movies and series (like Blox) before switching to a movies-only format on October 20, 2013. The channel was acquired by rTV Networks on March 31, 2017, following the closure of Gavent Networks and the divestiture of its properties to other companies, of which rTVN gained the majority of. Upon the acquisition, rTVN moved Flickz into its rTV Networks Gavent subsidiary (relaunched for the purpose of holding the channels), with intentions to relaunch the channel as a movies-focused sister channel to rTVN's existing premium brand Blox. Lava Lamp Entertainment, looking for a movie channel of their own (which they had begun acquiring film rights for), was interested in acquiring Flickz, however rTVN was not interested in selling the channel. On May 12, 2017, Lava Lamp Entertainment entered into an operational agreement with rTV Networks, where Lava Lamp would control programming the new channel and rTVN would retain ownership and management of the channel. The agreement was a marriage of convenience, due to the fact that rTVN had a channel and brand ready for Blox Flickz, but were unsure if there was enough content to spread across both Blox and Blox Flickz; and Lava Lamp was acquiring content but did not have a channel to air it on. The channel was officially relaunched as Blox Flickz on May 26, 2017.
Closure and repositioning as Blox Premium Edit
In the fall of 2018, as the potential supply of Robloxiwood content dried up due to strained relations between film companies and television broadcasters, the future of rTVN's premium Blox brands was brought into question. rTV Networks ultimately made public, on a limited basis, that Blox and Blox Flickz would be repositioned and rebranded: Blox would be moved downmarket and serve as the company's basic-premium generalist channel, with Blox Flickz taking Blox's former status as a midrange "premium flagship" channel known as Blox Premium, to be launched at a date currently unknown. rTV Max will emphasize a focus on higher-brow premium content (though with no changes to its brand or positioning) in a bid to reduce the overlap between the three channels. The channel was relaunched on January 6, 2019. The relaunch of Blox Flickz as Blox Premium will bring an end to AGavent's Flickz brand after over five years. It is unknown if the new channel will be made available to other television providers.
